After Dark: The Anatomy of a People’s Struggle is a yet to be published manuscript of poems tracing the contemporary historical arc of the people of African ancestry in the West using the poetic form as the vehicle of expression. Whether listening or reading Mello’s evocative words, one can’t help but be touched by his compassion, be carried away by his charisma, intelligence and the transformative power of his authentic voice that speaks to all humanity. Mello writes with a respect for history while seeking to instill hope in the present while creating a better current-future for all. In 2011 Mello also released an album Water Carrier, which is based on After Dark: The Anatomy of a People’s Struggle.
